Wayne David Hall

Wayne David Hall passed away peacefully on May 9, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was a force of nature. The middle child of 7 growing up in a strong Christian household in coastal Connecticut. He was blessed and grateful for his exemplary parents, James and Joan Hall. He loved his siblings: Lance, Pamella, Michael, Kevin, Jimmy and Jay. He shared a special bond with Lance, his right hand man and protege growing up. He loved being a Brother. Always willing to extend a helping hand or words of advice. He valued his roots. A vault for family history. The life of every Hall Family Reunion.

Gifted and accomplished wrestler, he won the Connecticut State Wrestling Championship as Team Captain his senior year in 1977. Wayne was a star athlete, he also played soccer, softball, and ran cross country track. He enjoyed watching football and was an avid Rams fan.

Music lover of all types. Early days, Genesis and Yes were particular favorites. Later in life he loved playing music and dancing with his Grandchildren, Nalani and Maximus. He was a member of the New London Surfers Drum and Bugle Corps. An excellent drummer, he played snare drum. Lifelong fan of the Santa Clara Vanguards.

Passionate artist with an affinity for pencil drawings and portraiture. Masterful carpenter, expert roofer, and very skilled in electronics. He was a man of a thousand talents, staying busy working on diverse projects and building the dream home for his family.

He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1978 - 1982. Where he won the prestigious Leatherneck Award. He completed bootcamp with a perfect score of 300. He also competed and won championship titles for the All-Marine Wrestling Team. He was the only African-American radar tech and scored highest in his class.

In 1982 while stationed in Hawaii he met the love of his life, Lisipa, better known as Liz, in a revolving restaurant overlooking Honolulu and they danced the night away. Dad always said it was love at first sight. He knew Liz was “The One” from the first moment he set eyes on her. She felt the same way and broke off her engagement to another man after their first date. Liz admired the way that Wayne adored her children: Lose, Emalata, Misi, and David. She fell deeply in love with him because he was so kindhearted and committed to showing them the true love of a Dad. They were married on October 20, 1984 and shared a romance that lasted over 40 years.

A year later they welcomed their daughter Erin Hall and she was Wayne’s pride and joy. He was the most wonderful and dedicated Father and always personified the definition of unconditional love. He bestowed upon her key principles, integrity, respect, bravery, perseverance, compassion, forgiveness, independence, the ability to think for herself and to live life to the absolute fullest.

Wayne was a family man. He was so proud of his beautiful family. He used to say nothing is more important than family and in the end all you have is your family; and he was right. He was right about most things. Wayne taught us many great lessons. A brilliant free-thinker, philosopher, contrarian, great debater, and respected elder. He loved to teach and ponder life’s biggest mysteries. He had a distinctly deep comforting voice with a strong New England accent that carried for miles. We will always remember his powerful and precious words of wisdom.

Dad, you will be greatly missed and forever loved. Your memory lives on in our hearts. Your presence is felt. Thank you for being such an extraordinary role model and for loving us unconditionally. I hope I have made you proud. All the best of me is you.

Funeral services for Wayne will be held Saturday, June 3, 2023 at the The Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder Day Saints located at 4660 West 5015 South, Kearns, Utah. A family service will begin at 9:00 AM, followed by the bishops service at 11:00 AM. Wayne will be interred with honor at the Memorial Redwood Cemetery located at 6500 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah.
