Stephen Jacob DuPaix, our beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2025. He was 34 years old. Stephen lived in Lehi, UT with his brother John.
Stephen was born March 27, 1991 in Sandy, UT, the son of Roger Owen DuPaix and Edie Rasband DuPaix. He was welcomed by his nine siblings who were so excited to add another brother to the six sisters. He loved his family, and as the baby, was adored by all.
Growing up, Stephen attended Edgemont Elementary School. He loved to read and learn about history. One year, he asked to be called Jake, because it was shorter to spell. While he loved playing soccer and football, he also enjoyed a good game of chess, especially when he could beat his dad or siblings!
Stephen was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He graduated from Seminary and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He loved being outdoors and especially enjoyed camping and hiking. He always gave his youth church leaders a run for their money!
Additionally, Steve loved video games and good music. He learned how to play the piano and continued to play all his life. Sometimes, he would sing as well, which his family loved to hear. He also made friends easily. Friends were always important to him. He attended Eastmont Middle School and loved the friends he found there.
As a teenager, Stephen began having health problems and was diagnosed with celiac disease. His challenges continued and worsened throughout his life. Although he looked great, he was often suffering and filled with pain. He loved knowing he could always come home for a homemade gluten-free meal from his mom. Steve especially loved pizza and brownies.
Stephen graduated from Jordan High School where he was a member of the tennis team and lettered in the sport. He loved playing tennis with his dad. He dressed sharp and loved wearing colognes like Eternity Aqua. Upon graduation, he attended Utah State University and Salt Lake Community College where he received his associate’s degree. He loved learning. His goal was to be a coach like his brothers and dad.
In the last few years of his life, Steve had become interested in bird watching, especially baby owls. He loved his two Indian ring neck parrots, Jersey and
Nimbus. He also wrote poetry and painted. Additionally, Steve started playing pickleball regularly. He was just beginning to compete in pickleball tournaments and found he did well! He had planned to leave for a tournament in Colorado the day he passed away.
Stephen is survived by his parents and nine siblings: Joe DuPaix (Monica), Meredith Jacobs (Shane), Jeannie Wade (Brent), John DuPaix, Debbie DuPaix (Christian), Danny DuPaix (Becky), Angi Gerrie (Kyle), Sarah Southwick (John), Becca Phillips (Gary), and their 31 collective children who call him uncle.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Clarence and Florence DuPaix and Grant and Mildred Rasband.
Stephen would want to be remembered as a kind and loving young man. He sought for truth and found beauty all around. We love him dearly and want to celebrate his life!
