Steksin Jesse Diopulos

d. September 2, 2020

1960 ~ 2020

Steksin Jesse Diopulos, 60, passed on the 25th of August 2020 just after midnight at St. Mark's Hospital in Murray, Utah. Steksin was born on July 18th, 1960 in Kolonia, Pohnpei to Stekos Jesse and Eka Solomon Diopulos. He grew up in Pohnpei, Kosrae, Pingelap, and Mokil as he moved island to island because his mother, a nurse, went where she was needed. Steksin attended Sokhes Powe Elementary school and graduated from Pohnpei Island Central High school. He was introduced to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and baptized in 1978; Steksin moved to Hawaii in December of 1979 to pursue his education at Brigham Young University Hawaii. After hearing that he may be able to return home if he served a mission, Steksin submitted his mission papers and was called to the San Diego California mission. He debated about whether to go, felt that he should respond to the call, and faithfully served his mission in San Diego. After his mission, he returned home to Pohnpei and married his wife, Kilarihna Esiel on July 20th, 1983. They then returned together to La'ie, Hawaii to be sealed in the La'ie, Hawaii Temple and to finish his degree in Computer Science. Steksin and Kilarihna started their family in 1984; over the course of many years and five more children, they moved from La'ie to Hau'ula to Kahuku. After graduating, Steksin worked in several positions, including as a high school counselor, drug and substance abuse counselor, youth outreach supervisor, and, most recently, as a delivery manager for Community Nursing Services.

As evidenced by his career and family choices, Steksin loved to be around and serve others. He also served in several capacities within the Church as an executive secretary, young men's leader, youth teacher, and ward mission leader. Besides serving others, Steksin loved fishing, storytelling, and more than anything else, being with his eleven grandchildren. Recently, Steksin and his wife, Kilarihna, moved to Salt Lake City to be closer to their grandchildren.

Steksin is predeceased by his parents, Stekos and Eka Diopulos, his siblings Klasthin (Molly), Stacklen, Snaider, and Hayleen. He is survived by his siblings Stensky (Doioko), Stanley, Starsin (Amyrose), Hartney, and Ekarhine (Jim), as well as his children Keilani (Paul), Eric, Derek (Kaycha), Janice (Chris), Landric (Maddy), and Kerilyn. Lastly, he is well remembered by his grandchildren Kainoa, Kobin, Ka'ua, Mylah, Kayani, Derius, Caden, Chase, Conor, Jazelle, and Jenna.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 4th, 2020, at 11 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Church at 4350 S 1100 E, Salt Lake City 84107. We respectfully ask that all those who attend the funeral service wear facial masks and appropriately social distance. For those who are unable to attend in person, a Zoom link will be distributed so they may attend virtually.
