1933 ~ 2018 Owen Carl Perkes, age 85 passed away October 6th after a courageous year long fight battling cancer. He was born on August 22, 1933 in Salt Lake City, UT to George and Cora Perkes.
Growing up he loved playing baseball and dreamed of going pro one day. He served in the U.S. Army paratroopers for three years, two of them were spent in Japan. In 1984 he met the love of his life Terri and they married just a few months later and were married for 34 years. His summers were spent camping with his family and in 1999 they moved to Hurricane, UT. close to an area they enjoyed camping at. Soon after he got a job that he loved as a grounds keeper at Sky Mountain golf course and he worked there until just a few months before he passed. He stayed young right up until he was diagnosed. He enjoyed, golfing, bowling, riding his bike, playing cards with friends. He had a love for flying and all things chocolate.He was a member of the LDS church. He taught primary and most recently was a cub scoutmaster.
Owen would meet new friends everywhere he went and will be missed by so many. Thank you to all the friends and neighbors that helped out and visited during this difficult time.
Survived by his wife Terri; children Darren, Michael W, Melissa (Scott), Michael P, Michelle, Penny, and Pamela; 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday, October 11, 2018 at 11:00am at the Leeds, UT. LDS chapel at 75 N. Main street. Viewing will be prior to the funeral from 9:30am - 10:40am.
Burial will be the following day Friday October 12 at 2pm at Memorial Mountain View Mortuary, 3115 Bengal Blvd, Cottonwood Heights (SLC), UT. 84121. There will be a visitation at 1pm prior to interment.
