Our beautiful Mother, Marion Veone Wood Boyington, passed away in the early morning of November 16th, 2025. She was 88 years old.
Veone was born on July 5th, 1937 in Murray, Utah to Francis Marion and Hazel Lenora Fowlks Wood. She married Mark Buddy Bowen of Charleston, SC and had four children; Steven (Jill), Stanley (Lacie), Deana (Kenny) Rivera, and Donna (Terry) Mitamura. They later divorced and she returned to Utah where she met Richard L. Boyington. They were married on May 27th,1970 in Elko, Utah and she inherited two more daughters; Lisa (Richard) Winter and Carla (Marti) Boyington-Tobias. The family continued to grow with 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Mom held jobs at a young age to support herself while also helping with her siblings, in addition to ensuring she made it through school and into Granite High School graduation. She worked for Sperry Rand/Univac (later Unisys), serving as the Executive Assistant to the Vice President & GM for more than 30+ years. Her and Dad later owned private businesses where she eventually retired from.
She taught herself to sew at a very young age, making clothing for herself and her siblings. Her creations were perfection and often made from patterns she designed herself. She was an excellent cook and loved to entertain; her recipes are still hard to replicate as she had many dishes she invented as she went. She was classy and always beautifully dressed; she would never leave her home without looking her very best. Her beautiful smile and engagement made you feel you were special and loved. She was extremely strong and very resilient to life’s many challenges. Her quick wit and Wood family sense of humor were her trademark which she maintained until she passed.
Through it all, her family was the most important to her. She loved each and every one, and was proud of them. Her and Dad loved raising their combined family and ensured life was full of camping, fishing, boating, golfing, and creating many other wonderful memories. She worked a full-time job and somehow managed to keep a tidy home, with plenty of time on weekends for family activities. In her later years, she looked forward to spending weekends at her and Dad’s property at Starvation Reservoir.
Her home was the center of everything; she loved visitors and most days her house was filled with additional family and friends. She loved the holidays and celebrating birthdays, she made everything perfect and beautiful. There was always something cooking and you would never leave her home without a meal. The house was filled with music from her beloved records; Roberta Flack, the Carpenters, Glen Campbell.
There will be a constant void in our hearts, we are grateful for Mom and so honored to be a part of her. May she rest in peace and be surrounded by love she so freely gave herself.
She is survived by one brother, Roland (Linda). She is preceded in death by her parents and her other 13 siblings; Preston Wood, Marion Wood Jr, Keith Wood, William (Gloria [later divorced]) Wood, Robert (Beverly) Wood, Joyce (Duane) Gardner, Lucy (Walt) Frear, Lila (Richard) Hampton, Illeane (Jerry) Dennis, Jean (Richard) Mackay, Afton (Victor) Adams, Raymond Wood (partner Linda), and Ora May (Victor) Myers.
Mom wished to be cremated with no formal services. There will be a Celebration of Life in the Spring 2026 on her behalf.
