Lawrence Earl (Larry) Becker, long time resident of Sunland/Tujunga California, passed away February 16, 2023 after many long health battles. He was born June 14, 1951, Flag Day, in Hillsboro, Oregon. After graduating from Verdugo Hills High School in 1969, he worked in several different jobs from gardening in his father’s business, to swimming pool construction, plastering, concrete finishing & carpentry. He was then employed by Los Angeles County Fire Department where he was deployed to wildfires and also did fire prevention for several years. He then went back to carpentry & got on with NBC studios where he worked on the Jay Leno Show, Days of our Lives, & various award shows building studio sets. He loved this and was proud of his time with the studios.
In 2018, Larry sold his Sunland, California home and moved to Mesquite Nevada to a home overlooking a golf course with views of mountains where he spent his final years & was close to his long-time girlfriend, Valerie.
Larry loved fast cars and motorcycles. He enjoyed driving in Big Tujunga Canyon & Angeles Crest Highway. He also took many long rides on his Harley Davidson with his brother-in-law, Art & several biker brothers to Sturgis, Reno, Moses Lake & other picturesque locations.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Peggy & Irving Becker, his sister Anne Marie, and brother-in-law Jim Boike, not to mention his beloved Rottweiler, Jake. Larry is survived by his five siblings: sisters- Sally, Maggie, & Caroline, and brothers- Max and Jack. He will be missed also by sister-in-law, Terry & brothers-in law Mil Blair, Dave Aronoff, & Art Riel. We are especially grateful for the love and support shown Larry from his girlfriend, Valerie Hainey. Finally, there are numerous nieces and nephews, too many to mention who will miss Larry who they knew as “Uncle Ice Cream”.
A celebration of life is being planned for this summer in Sunland/Tujunga, California for friends and family. Details to be forthcoming.
