Joyce Anne Dunster Stout

Joyce Anne Dunster Stout, born October 25, 1949 in Salt Lake City to Hulda Burgener and James Merrill Dunster passed away at home on April 15th, 2023.

Joyce met her husband, Mark Heaton Stout on a blind date in 1969. When he left for his mission, she faithfully wrote to him and waited the two years for his return. They were married on September 7, 1971.

They were blessed with 4 children, Brandon Mark, AngeLena Fay, Jaron Andrew, and Amberleah Joyce.

Joyce is survived by her loving husband, Mark. Her sister Janice (Darrel) Allmendinger, and brother-in-laws Keith Scow and Allen Stout, children Brandon (Chrystal) Stout, AngeLena (Christopher) Anderson, Jaron (Megan) Stout, and Amberleah (Jason) White, 24 grandchildren, Hiram, Avalon, Benjamin, James, Emma, Khaia-Mae, Kierra and Kalle Stout, Krystel (Jared) Speck, Jaelyn (Jesús) Lopez, Gellie and Jamison Anderson, Karleah, Nathanael, Carson, Nessa and Faith Stucky, Lucas, Lilly, Jeanine, Anthonio, Caranina, Travis "TJ", and Emily White and 2 (almost 3) great-grandchildren Jasper and Dimitri Speck. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter-in-law, Julie Johnson Stout, sister Jeneal Scow, and sister-in-law Mary Lou Stout who passed only hours before Joyce.

She was always known for her amazing talents, including quilting, sewing, cross stitch, porcelain dolls, crochet, ceramics and other artistic creations like a purse from soda can tabs, a gum wrapper chain, and a bag made of grocery sacks. She handmade clothes for her children, including matching outfits for every vacation and holiday, blessing outfits and baptism dresses for grandchildren, wedding dresses, and more.

Mom lived and loved the gospel of Jesus Christ and shared her testimony with all she could. She loved the temple and respected the priesthood. She served at the Humanitarian Center from June, 2015 to June 2019 and worked with children most of her life. She was willing to take in those who needed help. Mom took care of her daughter-in-law as she fought and succumbed to cancer, along with 4 grandchildren, for several years. Later, she helped Amberleah with single motherhood, a hospital stay, and 2 years of ECT.

Joyce never hesitated to share her life trials and what she learned from them. People were drawn to her, always asking advice or seeking comfort, and she never hesitated to show love and lend a listening ear.

Special thanks to her in-home physical therapist Matthew Beddes, he always got her to smile. Thanks to all the emergency workers that responded, every time there was a problem with mom the last several months. Most of all, thanks to her loving husband, Mark, for tirelessly and lovingly taking care of her every need, until the last breath.

An evening viewing will be held Thursday, April 27, 2023 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Jordan North Stake, 3900 South 4000 West, West Valley City, Utah. The following day, a viewing from 10:00 – 10:45 AM with funeral services following at the Jordan North Stake. Interment to follow at Memorial Lake Hills Cemetery, 10055 South State Street, Sandy, Utah.
