Helen B. Sweenie, age 98, died on January 2, 2026, in Layton, Utah. She was born on June 6, 1927, in Franklin, New Hampshire, to parents Robert Walter Bailey and Ruth Augusta Williams. She later married Harry William Sweenie on November 23, 1947.
Helen loved solving Cryptoquote puzzles and assembling jigsaw puzzles. She played golf right up until the end of July 2025. She also enjoyed playing cards with her friends, going out to lunch, playing bingo, and attending church services held at the clubhouse.
Helen worked for Ingersoll-Rand in Nashua, New Hampshire, for many years before retiring in 1984. Shortly thereafter, she and Harry moved to Florida, where they played golf together as much as possible. Helen continued to live there after Harry’s death until August 2025, when she moved to Utah to be closer to her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol S. Thacker (Terry); her granddaughter, Collyn So’o (Ati); and five great-grandchildren: Colton, Laura, Ashlynn (Corey), Hunter (Abby), and Makai, as well as three nieces and five nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; her son, Bruce; her grandson, Daniel; her sister, Marion; her two brothers, Richard and Robert Jr.; and her parents, Robert and Ruth Bailey.
No funeral services will be held. She will be interred with her husband, Harry, at Florida National Cemetery.
