Helen Eloise Morris

d. February 26, 2022

Helen Eloise Morris, 101, passed away in her sleep Saturday, January 1, 2022 at the Beehive Homes Assisted Living facility in Washington, Utah. Helen was born April 3, 1920, in Humeston, Iowa to Elgin McCart and Mary Lousie Kirchner. Her father was killed in 1924 by an explosion where he worked. Her mother remarried in January 1927 to Benjamin Coffee. He brought two daughters to the family. They became one happy family in a short time. She graduated from Corydon High School in May 1938.

On September 27, 1938 she married Eugene Morris in Corydon, Iowa. They farmed in Wayne County for a short time, later moving to Thompson, Iowa and Forest City, Iowa, where Eugene started his own insurance agency. Helen worked various retail jobs, until joining the agency as their bookkeeper. Helen was diagnosed mid-life with Ocular Histoplasmosis (aka Bird Disease). This became progressively worse as she aged, causing her to be nearly blind in later years. She and Eugene were both very active in the Lions and Lioness Clubs for many years.

After Eugene's death, she was fortunate to have the comfort of a good friend, Mel Robie, for about 10 years. After Mel's death, she moved to La Hacienda RV Resort, Apache Junction, Arizona in 2002 to be near her son, Elgin and family. Helen was an avid player of bridge, cribbage and other card games and enjoyed listening to sports. She was a long-time member of the Methodist Church.

Helen is survived by her son, Elgin and Claudia Morris, Hurricane, Utah; her Granddaughters Dawn Larson, Hurricane, Utah and K'Ann (Karl) Dearie, Pleasant Hill, Iowa; Great Grandchildren Micha Morris, Eric (Kim) Reicherts and Mathias (Barrin) Morris, Hunter (Illiana) Brandt, Kris, Kory and Kari Dearie, Kady, Gage and Keali Larson; Great Great Grandchildren Wyatt, Aislynn, Ashton, Zander, Brayedin, Jayden, Isaac, Levi and Mason.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her brother William Lyle McCart, stepsisters Leitha (Leo) Hughes and Alta (Ernest) Sharp and Grandsons Michael and Mark Morris. There are no planned services.
