Hazel Lee Robbs Vermillion grew weary of the fight with Alzheimer's disease and decided to rest and return to her heavenly home on December 14, 2013, one day prior to her 84th birthday. She was born in Prescott, Arizona to James Freddie Robbs and Naoma Wilkins Robbs on December 15, 1929. She was the second child of six born to her parents and two more half-sisters followed in later years. She lost two brothers as infants and her other three brothers, Marion, Jerry, and Glen, all preceded her in death. Sisters surviving are Naoma Michael of Tucson, Arizona and Freddy Goins of Globe, Arizona.
She met the love of her life, James Roy Vermillion, in Lordsburg, New Mexico at age 19 when she was working as a bank teller. They were married on May 27, 1949 in Safford, Arizona. They had four children, Naoma Lynn (Hudson) of Grain Valley, Missouri, James Richard of Tucson, Arizona, Roy Lewis (deceased), and Lee Ann (Freeze) of Lehi, Utah. She was preceded in death by her son, Lewis and his wife, Susan, in 1980. She lost her eternal companion in 2011 also to Alzheimer's disease. A grandson, Adam Lewis Vermillion, also preceded her in death in 2010. She is survived by six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Hazel was always making beautiful things with her hands. She loved to sew and crochet and do needlepoint and created many beautiful works of art. She loved to cook and spend time with her family. Her signature dish was the enchiladas that she made when all the family got together. She loved the Lord and taught her children to pray. She lived a life of example by following the principle of the gospel of Jesus Christ. She loved her husband of nearly 62 years very much and they had a wonderful life together.
A brief viewing will be held at Lake Hills Memorial Mortuary located at 10055 South State, Sandy, Utah on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at 6:30 - 7:00 p.m. Her body will be returned to Nevada, Missouri to be buried beside her husband, son, and daughter-in-law at Newton Burial Park on December 23, 2013.
Her family would like to give heartfelt thanks to all the great people that work at River Meadows in Alpine, Symbii Home Health and Hospice of Sandy, Essential Care, and most of all to Ashford Memory Care in Highland, Utah. There are angels among us. Anyone wishing to send flowers would be asked to make a donation to the Alzheimer's Association instead.
