Frank Owen Hoffman, Sr.
June 20, 1923 - September 18, 2013
Preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, son, Bradford, daughter Debbie, and daughter-in-law, Julie, Frank Owen Hoffman, Sr. passed from this life peacefully on the morning of September 18th at his home in Sandy, Utah, at the age of 90 years. He was a man of many talents, greatly loved by his family and friends.
Frank Hoffman served in the US Navy during WWII as commander of an LCT troop and supply ship. After the war he taught music in high school briefly, consulted in materials logistics for the Navy, and hosted a public television show in the San Francisco bay area before moving to Los Angeles where he worked in management for Tide Water Oil Company, and ultimately founded the management consulting firm, Practical Management Associates.
Frank and his wife, Dorothy, moved to Sandy, UT in 1988. Not yet ready for complete retirement and leisure, he returned to work briefly as Director of Personnel Management for Salt Lake County, founded the Frank O. Hoffman Organization, and published the "Trainer's Forum" magazine. A lover of Dixieland jazz, he resumed playing clarinet in the "Don't Quit Your Day Job" Dixieland jazz ensemble, and wrote a song on the subject that was performed in contest by the Beehive Statesmen Chorus under the direction of his son Scott.
Baptized into the LDS faith late in life along with two of his grandchildren, Frank was a faithful member of the Telford Ward. He and Dorothy were sealed for time and all eternity in the Jordan River Temple in 1999.
Beloved by his family, he is survived by sons: Owen, Mark, Scott. Daughter: Tracie. Grandchildren: Trevor, Heidi, Elke, Brittany, Carl, Ivan, and Preston, and great grandsons: Michael, Arie, Noah, Boyd, Harlan, and Leo.
Services will be held on Saturday, September 28, at 11:00 a.m. at the Telford Ward building, located on the corner of Creek Rd. and Telford Way in Sandy, Utah. (1834 E. 7995 S.) Viewing to be held one hour prior to services.
