David Chase Ashton

May 7, 1988 — January 2, 2026

David Chase Ashton

David Chase Ashton was born to Jack and Marie Ashton on May 7, 1988, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the youngest of their 8 children. David passed away on January 2, 2026 due to complications from Neurofibromatosis. David was the anchor of the Ashton family and will be deeply missed. Due to the effects of his illness he suffered from many disabilities. The most major side effect was going blind when he was 5 years old. His intellectual and physical development was also affected by his illness. Through it all David was able to maintain a fun-loving personality and knew how to tell a funny joke. David attended the School for the Deaf and Blind, in Ogden, Utah, from the age of 9 until he was 22. There he was able to learn life skills to help him become more independent. David loved being at home and with his family. He loved having people over, and he loved being included in all of the activities that were had in the Ashton home. His five older brothers taught him the art of teasing, which he in turn learned to master. He loved to laugh, to listen, to be around everybody else. Being an uncle brought David great joy. He was always one of the first people to want to greet each newborn grandchild. He loved being around them, and was especially fond of watching fireworks, and throwing snaps with them. He loved celebrating birthday parties, the singing, the cake and most importantly, the presents. We will never forget the used batteries that David would give each sibling for their birthdays. David carried within himself a deep faith in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In the evenings you could see him kneeling by his bed in prayer, in complete conversation, sometimes laughing hysterically. It was a magical moment to witness. He would ask for Priesthood Blessings when he needed them and always was ready for Church on Sundays. He wanted to be there for every baptism and baby blessing of his nieces and nephews. In 2018 David began to have seizures regularly. They were severe and had an effect on his mental and emotional capacities. He endured it all because he wanted to be with those he loved. His family. David is deeply loved and will be greatly missed. Yet, we are so thankful for the time we had with him on this earth. He is our greatest blessing. David is preceded in death by his father, Jack Schrader Ashton. He is survived by his mother, Marie Yeates Ashton and siblings, Amy Ashton (Eric Adams), John, Kenneth (Kristin), Andrew (Carolyn), Alice Coulam (Mark), Edward, (Becky), Wilson (Angitta), and his thirteen nieces and nephews.
