Casey James Hill, our son, brother, uncle, and dear friend surprised us with his death on September 12, 2023. He was born on June 12, 1986. He is now reunited with his mother, Janis Busby Hill, who preceded him in death by eight weeks. He is survived by his father Cary Ray Hill, brother Ryan Hill, sister Heather (Matt) Kiisel, and his nephews and niece.
Casey will be remembered as the curator of fun, excitement, and silliness. He leaned into the playful parts of life. He was both extravagant and tactical in the board games he played, winning an annoying percentage of the time while making everyone smile with his exuberant laugh. He was in his element with people; he encouraged those close to him to join him at the many dances, events, and parties he filled his schedule with. He lost himself in music and elevated his partners as he danced with a fluidity and grace we had no idea our awkward, young Casey would one day possess.
Casey’s childhood nickname of “Pumpkin” given to him by his dad fit him well. He loved all things autumn, went all-out with his Halloween decor, and could never say no to a slice of pumpkin pie. He grew pumpkins in his garden, and had a gorgeous pumpkin vine tattoo on his shoulder.
His greatest quality was the size of his heart. He was generous with love. Casey had a way of bringing the ones who needed it into his very tight embrace. He had empathy for those who were struggling and always made others feel comfortable around him.
Casey will always be the Xena to our Gabrielle, the Hercules to our Lolaus, the Goblin King to our Sarah, the Mulder to our Scully. Our lives will never shine quite as bright without Casey.
We will gather to remember Casey on September 25th at 4:30 PM at the West pavilion of Canyon Rim Park. 3100 S 2900 E, Millcreek, UT 84109. A service will follow at 5:00 PM.
In lieu of sending flowers, please give someone who wants one, a Casey tight hug with a little bit of a growl.
