Carolyn Chadwick Geddes

September 8, 1937 — April 28, 2023

Orem, Utah -

Carolyn Chadwick Geddes, 85, passed away in her home, April 28, 2023, with her devoted husband Lynn Geddes by her side.

She was born September 8, 1937, in Whitney, Idaho, the daughter of James Adam Chadwick & Tomina Martina Jensen.

Carolyn grew up in Whitney, Idaho as the youngest of 11 children. There were 9 girls and 2 brothers. (Cleo, Nona, June, Audene, Ada, Don, Udell, Zelma, Floris, Clarice & Carolyn). She was 5 years younger than her closest sibling and 22 years younger than her oldest brother.

When she was young, her entertainment came in the form of paper dolls. She had shoe boxes full of paper dolls. Her chores included gathering eggs and filling the coal bucket every day. If she didn’t get it done during the day, then she had to do it in the dark of night. She also helped the family thinning and weeding the beets. She learned early on that she could get out of some chores by sitting down to practice the piano. She became a beautiful pianist and could improvise and make songs come alive. Music was always an important part of Carolyn’s life. She switched from playing the clarinet to the drums and she loved to sing.

She married Lynn Stewart Geddes, June 8, 1956, in the Logan, Utah, Temple. Together they have lived a life rich in experiences.

Carolyn and her husband Lynn had 8 children (Doyle (Lila), Berkeley (BethAnn), Kathleen (Robert), Bryon (Joni), Lynette (Mel), Dwight (Adonna), Bradley (Liesha) & Karleen (Royal). They spent many hours at sporting events watching their children participate in a variety of sports.

Lynn & Carolyn lived in several locations in many States including Killeen, Texas; Banida, Idaho; Logan, Ogden, and Salt Lake City, Utah; Las Vegas, Nevada; Columbus, Ohio; Flemington, and Little York, New Jersey (They lived in New Jersey for 21 years). Mesa, Arizona, Pleasant Grove & Orem, Utah.
Some years Carolyn would join Lynn on his trips to Europe with his Tour group: America’s Youth in Concert.
They had many opportunities for service, both in church, and in the community. Carolyn served as Ward, and Stake Organist; Young Women leader; Seminary Teacher; Ward and Stake Relief Society President in three different Stakes. She had the privilege of serving as an Advisory Board member to New York LDS Social Services. They also served as Family History Coordinators in Arizona. Carolyn had several rewarding years teaching home organization classes for the Rutgers University Extension Service in New Jersey.

Carolyn was an avid quilter when they lived in the Eastern United States. She taught and participated in many quilt shows.

When they moved to Arizona Carolyn took computer classes and worked for Rio Salado Community College and then as an office manager in three dental offices before opening her own dental office.

Carolyn loved Rocks and going on rock-hunting expeditions and to rock shows.
She loved to read and wrote her own books:
• Gma, Rocks on your piano!
• The Little Green Blob F.R.O.G.
• For Want of a Dollar
• Expect the Unexpected
Carolyn had some health challenges and she learned to “expect the unexpected.” She had 2 brain tumor surgeries followed by sepsis. It was priesthood blessings, miracles, and the prayers of family that pulled her through. She says, “Increase your faith, work on your prayers, and include the priesthood in your life.”

Carolyn always loved getting together with family to have fun, whether it was at family reunions, at sporting events, to enjoy a meal, on trips, or anywhere in between. She especially loved getting together with her sisters.

Most of all Carolyn was devoted to her husband and sweetheart! They stuck together through thick and thin and were always there to love and support each other.

She loved her family and her grandchildren. She has 39 grandchildren and 56 great-grandchildren. She recently attended the temple with her grandson Braden Sirrine, and her 55th and 56th great-grandson and granddaughter were just born on April 26th and April 28th.

Her message to her family and all of us can be summed up in her 2nd book:
“We also have a voice, name, and purpose!
God hears our voice, and He knows our name and purpose.
May we expand our hearts and RIVET our minds to have Faithful Reliance on God (F.R.O.G.)
For God can answer our prayers!”
