Alice Elizabeth Aaron

d. June 17, 2022

West Valley City, Utah -

Alice, better known as Betty, was the eldest of two children.  Betty and her younger brother Harold grew up as Air Force brats and she was proud of the label.   Their father, Lt. Colonel Harold Knight Owens, flew B-36 and B-52s during his career in the Air Force.    Her mother, Johanna Hendrika Grotepaß, migrated from the Netherlands in 1928.   As a child she lived in numerous states.   Her love of music started at an early age when she learned to play the Accordion.   She was a member of the Milton Mann Accordion Band while attending school and she was recognized as the 'Greatest Increase by any Bowler' in the American Junior Bowling Congress.  Betty graduated in 1961 from Albany High School, Albany GA.

Betty met her first husband, Richard (Dick) Alan Cummins, in Jan 1963 while selling balloons at the fair.  Dick was a corporal in the US Marine Corps.  They watched $0.25 movies at the base movie theater and had several dinners with her parents at the Officer's Club.   They married on 14 Jun 1963 in Albany GA.

Betty and Dick moved to Midland, MI where Betty was a homemaker and Dick worked as a pipe fitter for Dow Chemical.   Betty and Dick had their first child, a son named Robert while living on Hailey St. in July 1964.   Two years later they had a daughter named Cynthia (Cindy) in Apr 1966.  The little family purchased a home on Elizabeth St soon after.   Another daughter, Wanda, was added to the family in Oct 1967 and Larry was the last child born in Jan 1969.  Betty and Dick divorced in 1972.

In 1975 Betty and the kids moved from MI to Sandy UT.   A year later the family moved to MIdvale and the following year the family moved to a home in Granger.    They lived in West Valley City from 1978 until 1981.   During these years, Betty instilled an appreciation of music in her children.   The kids took Cello, Viola, Piano, Trombone lessons and sang in choirs.  Betty met her second husband Michael (Mike) while working as a server in a restaurant.    Mike saw Betty and said 'I am going to marry that woman'.  She married Michael Lewis Aaron on 21 Dec 1979 and they purchased their home in West Valley City where she lived the remainder of her life.

Betty could be found doing many things.  Getting her kids to sing.  Directing music. Singing in choirs. Making a meal for someone. Being a mother. A volunteer in many ways. Donating blood and to many other causes.  She has been active in the community, helped with elections as a judge and worked with the Republican party as a state and county delegate. She also had a hobby or craft she loved to work with; from glass etching, scrapbooking, card making, she did everything.  Christmas was also a favorite time.  It allowed her to make things to hand out with candy or some new type of paper craft ornament, she loved to cook, knit, and crotchet.  She worked as a server at a restaurant, long haul truck driving with Mike, a bank teller, and finally retired while working at IHG (Holiday Inn).

Betty was preceded in death by her father, mother, brother, and her loving husband Michael Aaron.   She is survived by Machelle Dahl (Scott), Kelly Shields (Steve), Robert Cummins (Lisa Baird), Cynthnia Aguirre (Steve), David Aaron (Becky), Wanda Turner (Joe), and Larry Cummins (Cindy), Ayn Aaron, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Everything she did and everyone she interacted with was a musical note of her life.  She has made a wonderful symphony.  We will miss you Mom!
